SARASOTA – Susan and Dan Higley are a fun loving, romantic and happy couple. They have been living like newlyweds for 35 years today. They are celebrating this special occasion with their family and friends on a private yacht, cruising from Sarasota to Key West, FL. It will be an awesome party, with delectable, organic food and deserts for all.
Susan and Dan just returned from a trip to Mt. Rainier in Washington State. Susan explains “In August of 2017, we climbed to the 14,410 foot peak for the first time. This trip we just enjoyed the public trails, going up past the 7000 ‘ elevation. We saw so many beautiful wild flowers along the trail and the glacial snow appeared as we climbed higher. The bears, deer, mountain goats and other animals also took part in the hike along the way.”
Dan continues “Although Mt Rainier is very special to us, we relish the experiences we encounter during our travels. In the early years of our marriage, we could only afford to travel one to four times per year and many of these trips were to visit family. For the last seven years, we have enjoyed travel so much, it is hard to keep track of how many separate trips we have taken. Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Africa, New Zealand, Australia and most of the 50 states all are subjects of amazing memories and new experiences.”
Susan excitedly takes over “We really love to visit family and friends. The best part is that most of our friends are also working our business with us. As we travel, we can visit friends and family, make new friends and business partners AND enjoy immersing ourselves in a variety of sights, sounds, peoples and cultures. We are able to continue to work our business for around 12 hours per week and the business continues to grow – even as we travel.”
I notice Dan’s current sports car, a 2023 corvette convertible. Dan says “I do appreciate driving with the top down and the wind in my hair. Susan is learning to enjoy the top-down experience, but she has stricter weather requirements that I do. As long as it isn’t raining, I enjoy driving topless and Florida is a great place to own a convertible.”
Susan and Dan are both very health conscious and they share their passion for health in their blogs. They often share recipes, healthy living tips, nutritional suggestions, exercise ideas and much more. This shows in their life and their physique. Both Dan and Susan are slim and fit. They look more than 10 years younger than the ages they have shared with me.
One health tip both Susan and Dan shared with me is meditation. They explain how fifteen minutes a day is all that is really required. Quieting the mind is important. Once true harmony is attained in the world within, the harmony is reflected in the world around you.
As I start to wrap up the interview, I ask Dan what allowed him and Susan to attain this lifestyle. Dan shares “It really started with the MKMMA course we experienced in the Fall and Winter of 2013. We had seen varying degrees of success before this, but the MKMMA course really focused us on what we truly wanted from life. Using the tools and exercises in the course started the changes in our lives: Our business began to really take off and seemed to explode. We started to more easily accomplish our goals and found we had more time during the day. Reading the book The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel really taught me how to meditate and focus on what I wanted to share with the world.”
As Susan and Dan embark on their 35th anniversary cruise, they wave farewell from the rail of the ship. Dan suggests to the readers to “Start you own hero’s journey. If you need help, give me a call when I get back”. I do believe he was serious.
